Genesis of the organization

 


SAMBANDH has completed 30 years of operation in Odisha, India this year. During this period, SAMBANDH has been focused on alleviating poverty and social exclusion by facilitating empowerment of women and girls from poor and marginalised communities, improving the standards of living of the tribal communities, addressing gender inequality and developing climate change mitigation strategies for a better future. As a development and humanitarian organization, SAMBANDH’s programmes are designed to work with the communities to catalyse demand for services and enhance their leadership skills, promote local capacities and create a supportive environment, strengthen systems to deliver quality and equitable services, and be with the people providing relief and rehabilitation in the event of disasters. This has resulted in making a difference in the lives and livelihoods of lakhs of people in the financial year 2020–21, which places the organisation well ahead of its target by the end of 2021. To be able to bring about the desired change in the communities served, SAMBANDH has developed an open and transparent organizational culture, based on the core values of respect, integrity, commitment, and excellence. A robust governance structure and investments in further strengthening key functional capabilities ensured increased efficiency and accountability in work on the ground. Over the years, the organisation has emerged as a preferred partner for communities, governments (local, state and central), project implementation partners, donors and other key stakeholders by delivering planned outcomes at the grassroot level through innovative solutions, while also generating knowledge that can be shared and adapted to diverse development challenges. Thank you for your trust and support, without which we would not have been able to achieve this scale and depth of impact.

Objectives of the Organization

  • To play as a resource organization for moral support, technical guidance, knowledge transfer and skill training to registered associations, and societies who are engaged in developmental process.  
  •  To conduct people’s research on various aspects of development issues and organize regular forums in order to bring consensus on relevant development issues among various groups, agencies and individuals working in the field of community / development.
  •  To promote, aid, assist, help, organize, undertake, carryout and co-ordinate programmes and schemes related to community / development.
  • To strengthen people’s organizations towards self-reliance through the method of self-help for growth and development of the marginalized section of the society.
  • To develop human resources in entrepreneurship and leadership skills.
  •   To impact to public education through various forums, networks, seminars, publications etc.
  • To create a process for awareness generation among the poor for establishment of their identity and assertion of their right.
  • To revive and promote the indigenous technology and knowledge by inducting professional & technical expertise and application of low-cost and appropriate technology and its replication.
  • To conduct various training programmes in order to foster value orientation and skill development among the youth and children.
  •   To organize programmes for full participation and integration of women as both agents and beneficiaries in the development process, promote strategies for equal opportunities and human right for women, work towards eradication of all forms of discrimination and violence of (both hidden and overt against women, lunch and participate in programmes for gender equality to ensure their empowerment).
  •  To implement and support plan of action advocating survival, protection and development of children, to launch special schemes to take care of gender specific needs of the girl child, to improve the nutritional and health status of children and to protect the rights of the child labour.
  •  To work towards education and literacy for all through a strategy of universalizing adult and continuing education and non-formal education and elementary education strengthen vocationalisation of education, development of open / distant education, promote languages, improve and integrate science, environment and population education, strengthen value education on cultural inputs and artists’ expression in educational contents and process; establish libraries and reading centres to develop relevant flexible.
  • v  To perform in the name and on behalf of the society, all rights, duties and functions falling within and in pursuance of the Memorandum of Association of the Society.
  • To appoint any sub-committees and to delegate subject to such conditions as they think fit any of their power to these Sub-Committees.
  • To make such regulations and implement them in respect of the control of the funds and property of the society as they may dream proper.
  • To pay the costs, charges and expenses preliminary and incidental to the promotion, establishment and registration of the society.
